The Marijuana Policy Project filed a formal request aimed at forcing the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy to correct its statement which claims that marijuana is “the greatest cause of illegal drug abuse”.

MPP issued a press release on Oct 17, 2008 commenting that the ONDCP despite spending hundreds of millions of tax dollars had completely failed to change teen attitudes about cannabis and that John Walters, the White House “drug czar” has apparently violated the ban on use of public funds for partisan activities by his attendance at 19 of Karl Rove’s “suggested” events to assist Republican candidates.
