The Media Awareness Project has some information about the trial of the “Holy Smoke 4″ – four people who operated a store in Nelson that sold marijuana. The article was written after they were found guilty and concludes with a mention of the sentencing date – Oct 14, 2008, the day before yesterday. Searching the internet today for the sentencing result comes up empty.
The Crown is asking for 9-12 month sentences for the three with prior convictions saying that they “offered no remorse”. The author of a letter to the editor of the Kootenay Express Newspaper makes a good point concerning what he terms an irrelevant response by the judge – if the assumption underlying his response carried any weight in his verdict then the conviction ought to be overturned, at least one would hope.
